The Alaska Zoo

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Nikolai, the last male of the zoo’s wolf pack. He passed away at the age of 15. He would have been 16 this spring. He and his five siblings arrived at the zoo in May of 2006 as pups. He lived his whole life with his siblings by his side and the dedicated zookeepers who took him on frequent walks on the zoo’s wooded back trails. He is survived by his two sisters still at the zoo, Windy and Ruby. Zoo staff and volunteers miss all of the animals whose time it is to pass, however Nikolai won over everyone with his easy going personality and disposition. We will miss you so much, Nik. We know you will greet Denali, Rohn and Lucky for us. Pup photos by John Gomes, photo with Curator Sam Lavin (courtesy of Sam Lavin) and the remaining photos by Zookeeper Alyssa Allen.
