Nichols pleaded guilty to a count of Marine Mammal Protection Act – illegal take and a count of obstruction of a Marine Mammal Protection Act Investigation in June 2018. Nichols was sentenced to five years probation, three months home incarceration and 400 hours of community service. He must also pay a $20,000 fine and issue a public apology in a national magazine that covers commercial fishing.

Turgeon pleaded guilty to one count of Marine Mammal Protection Act – illegal take. He was sentenced to four years probation, one month home incarceration and 40 hours of community work service. He must pay a $5,000 fine.

Notice: Public Comment Period Extended for Regulations Dealing with PFAS Cleanup Levels
The public comment period has been extended to 5:00pm Tuesday November 13, 2018 to allow additional time provide comments on the DEC’s proposal to amend regulations in 18 AAC 75. The proposed changes update and add cleanup levels for six per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) for soil and groundwater.

The DEC welcomes your comments on the proposed changes to the regulations and the updated adopted-by-reference documents. Torgeson said the program isn’t costing taxpayers anything because the library doesn’t get public funds to pay for its programming. She said operational funds are raised by the nonprofit Friends of the Library group, adding that the drag queens are supplied for free by Identity Inc.
