WOMEN CRY

Women cry when they’re mad, I said
And left out the part about hurt and sad
Scared, worried, misunderstood, frayed
Uncertain, and a tad bit overwhelmed

We cry ugly when
A regular red-nose cry won’t do
Our makeup ruined, our masks unglued
Into the dunk tank we go, kasploosh

All blubbery messiness observed
Napkins and sleeves called to attend
We blink away, look away, file away
and retire our weary spigots to bed.
