Veterans Day:
In an effort to reduce or eliminate wait times at the Visitor Control Center for access to the Fort Richardson National Cemetery and Alaska Department of Military & Veterans Affairs’ Veterans Day Ceremony Nov. 11, the 673d Security Forces Squadron’s base-access section will have a dedicated call-in number for early registration Nov. 8-10. Early registration will allow approved individuals to enter JBER without needing to stop at the VCC.
This registration is only for access on November 11 to-and-from Fort Richardson National Cemetery and the official Veterans Day ceremony only. The Alaska DMVA will host the Veterans Day ceremony at the Alaska National Guard Armory at 10:30 a.m. Community members found outside those areas may be charged with trespassing.
Individuals interested in registering for access on Veterans Day should call (907) 552-6910 between the hours of 8 to 11 a.m. and noon to 4 p.m.
To register, individuals must be U.S. citizens and provide their full name, state ID or driver’s license number and date of birth. Security Forces personnel will run a criminal background check for disqualifying information. Upon successful screening, individuals will be added to a list of authorized patrons at the Richardson Gate.
The technician handling your call will inform you if you’re cleared for entry or denied access at the time of the call.
You may experience long wait times during the phone call, depending on time of day, but pre-registration will eliminate waiting at the VCC the day of the events.
Patrons 16 and older will only show their ID to be compared to the list and will be granted access to the base. Patrons under 16 do not require criminal vetting or a picture ID to gain access to JBER for this event.
Exercise:
During the week of Nov. 14th, people who live and work on or near the installation may notice increased air traffic, emergency vehicle activity, sirens, loudspeaker announcements, alert notifications and longer wait times at the gates during the exercise.
Star Lighting:
On Nov. 25th at approx. 8 a.m. the star on the mountain is scheduled to be turned on. This year is unique as our JBER team will not need to transverse the mountainside to “flip the switch.” Repair work was recently completed to be able to power the star from the installation.
